Synopsis
Over one relentless blue hour a veteran aerial shooter and his small crew chase the perfect unbroken take across Iceland's volcanic spine. When a dormant rift detonates without warning, ice shelves fracture and rivers of lava chase their helicopter through steam and ash. What begins as a technical triumph becomes a fight to stay aloft and alive while the landscape they love is rewritten in fire and ice. Trapped between collapsing terrain and toxic plumes, the team must improvise a final circling shot that may be the last record of the eruption—or their own deaths. As ash darkens the sky and the drone's stabilization fights physics itself, personal fractures surface: the director's obsession, the pilot's guilt, the scientist's warning ignored. In the final minutes the camera keeps rolling even as the ground gives way beneath them. The unbroken take ends not with triumph but with a single, impossible wide shot of a new island rising from the sea, the team lost inside it.
The story
Veteran drone pilot Lars and his skeleton crew launch at blue hour to capture Iceland's pristine glaciers and rivers in one flawless aerial take. Warnings from local volcanologist Dr. Elara are dismissed as the team prioritizes the shot.
A sudden rift rips the valley open; lava fountains and collapsing ice force the helicopter into a desperate low-level sprint through steam and flying debris while personal conflicts ignite.
With fuel and time gone, Lars circles the fissure one last time, sacrificing everything to finish the take as the landscape vanishes beneath them, leaving only the final image of birth and destruction.

EXT. ICELANDIC HIGHLANDS - BLUE HOUR The camera is already moving—an ultra-wide aerial glide over black volcanic plains veined with silver rivers. Steam rises in ghostly ribbons. A distant HELICOPTER enters frame, sleek and insect-like. INT. HELICOPTER - SAME LARS VINTER, 48, leans into the open door, eye glued to a monitor. Wind screams. LARS Hold the horizon. I want the glaciers to look like they're breathing. MIA SOTO, 32, grips the cyclic, eyes narrowed. MIA Copy. But those plumes weren't there at pre-flight. On the monitor, the landscape suddenly fractures. A brilliant orange line rips across the ice. The helicopter bucks. ELARA (radio) Abort. It's opening. Lars, it's opening now. Lars doesn't blink. The drone feed stays locked, perfectly stabilized, as the first lava fountain punches skyward.
Why now
As climate records shatter and audiences hunger for stories that fuse spectacle with planetary dread, this film turns real-time geological violence into a visceral warning shot about a world where beauty and catastrophe can no longer be separated.
