Synopsis

Burned-out architect Kaito retreats to a remote mountain village after a scandal destroys his career. There he finds the Onsen of Eternal Reflection, whose waters plunge him into immersive visions of the affair that ruined him and the woman he abandoned. Aiko, the onsen’s guardian, guides his successive immersions as past and present collide. With each plunge Kaito edges closer to erasing everything or returning to confront the world that exiled him. At dawn the first light cuts through the steam, revealing whether he descends the mountain or vanishes into mist forever.

The story

Act I

Kaito arrives shattered at the remote village and discovers the legendary onsen. His first immersion replays the career-ending betrayal and the night he left his lover Hana.

Act II

Deeper plunges reveal Aiko as both memory and warning while Kaito confronts the full cost of his ambition. Hallucinations and village whispers blur the line between past and present as he weighs erasure against return.

Act III

At sunrise Kaito faces the ultimate choice. He either walks down the mountain to face his accusers or remains in the mist, leaving the audience with only the lingering steam and an open question of his fate.

Cold open

INT. TOKYO HIGH-RISE APARTMENT - NIGHT
Rain lashes the floor-to-ceiling windows. KAITO, 42, disheveled in a rumpled suit, stares at his phone as headlines scroll: "Architect Exposed in Bribery Scandal." He drops the phone, grabs a suitcase, and exits without looking back.

EXT. MOUNTAIN ROAD - DAWN
Kaito’s car climbs a fog-choked road. He parks, steps into icy air, and follows a narrow path until steam rises between cedar trees.

EXT. ONSEN CLEARING - CONTINUOUS
The onsen glows turquoise. Kaito strips, lowers himself into the water. Steam swirls. Suddenly the surface reflects his Tokyo apartment again. He sees himself and HANA arguing. Her voice echoes underwater: "You chose the prize over us." Kaito gasps, surface breaking. AIKO, ethereal and barefoot on the rocks, watches him. "Some never surface," she says softly. Steam thickens. CUT TO BLACK.
