Synopsis
Marcus Hale arrives at the Vatican to exterminate silverfish but finds cardinal bones whispering in locked reliquaries and gnawed sockets glowing with ancient hunger. As midnight chapels echo with stolen prayers, the relics stir, remembering muscle and breath, and the infestation spreads like plague through marble veins. With dawn approaching, Hale must choose whether to seal the tombs forever or let the saints rise screaming for their stolen lives. Allied with a doubting nun and a terrified cardinal, he descends into ossuary catacombs where silverfish masks crack open to reveal teeth of bone and gold. Each reliquary cracked unleashes a fragment of holy fury that crawls toward warm skin. The night becomes a siege of whispered litanies and splintering altars. By matins the true horror emerges: the relics do not want death but return, and Hale carries the final key in his own living marrow.
The story
Summoned at dusk, exterminator Marcus Hale enters the silent Vatican expecting routine pest control yet discovers gnawed reliquaries and bones that twitch when touched; a young nun warns the silverfish are only the symptom.
As whispers spread through the chapels, Hale and allies descend into the catacombs confronting awakening relics that hunger for flesh; betrayals and possessions fracture their small band while the infestation accelerates toward midnight.
In the final hour Hale confronts the central reliquary of Saint Longinus, choosing to burn or release the bones; dawn breaks as the Vatican bells ring and the last relic decides whether to claim him or rest.

Cold open
INT. VATICAN RELIQUARY CHAPEL - NIGHT Moonlight filters through stained glass onto marble niches. MARCUS HALE (40s, gaunt, tool belt heavy with sprays and traps) kneels before a silver reliquary. He sprays a fine mist. A faint SCRAPING answers from inside. HALE Silverfish don't scratch back. He leans closer. The reliquary lid trembles. A dry WHISPER leaks out in Latin. Hale freezes. His flashlight beam catches a sliver of yellow bone pressing against the grille, moving like a finger testing its cage. From the shadows, a second reliquary CLICKS open an inch. Another whisper joins the first, then a third. The chapel fills with the sound of bones remembering how to pray. Hale stands slowly, spray can dripping, eyes wide with sudden understanding.
Why now
In an era of collapsing institutions and renewed hunger for meaning, Silverfish in the Cathedral taps the cultural nerve of sacred bodies politicized and relic culture revived on social feeds, delivering visceral dread about what we preserve and what we allow to rise again.

Screenplay draft
In the shadowed vaults of the Vatican, a lone exterminator confronts the unthinkable. Whispers echo from the bones, relics stirring with memories of life. Something unseen devours them, not the silverfish he was sent to slay. As dread seeps through the chapels, the dead begin to awaken. He has one night to silence the horrors before they reclaim their flesh. In this gothic nightmare of faith and fear, the line between the sacred and the damned blurs. SILVERFISH IN THE CATHEDRAL.
