Synopsis
In near-future Los Angeles, an experimental fear toxin released during a subway rush hour turns everyday anxiety into murderous rage. Former Marine turned school security guard Marcus Hale discovers he is immune thanks to years of trauma training and races across the fracturing metropolis to reach his daughter before the infection hits her school. As the National Guard seals the city and survivors devolve into mobs, Marcus must teach a ragtag group of strangers that composure is the only weapon left. The outbreak spreads through screams and screens alike, forcing Marcus to confront the suppressed panic he has carried since his final tour. With sirens wailing and the skyline burning, he realizes the toxin feeds on unresolved grief. In a final standoff atop a skyscraper command center, Marcus faces the scientist who unleashed the agent, proving that true calm is not absence of fear but mastery of it.
The story
Marcus's routine at the high school is shattered when the first infected commuters attack the perimeter. He rescues a small group of students and learns the outbreak is deliberate.
As the city descends into chaos, Marcus battles infected hordes and his own resurfacing PTSD while guiding survivors through subway tunnels toward the quarantine line where his daughter is trapped.
Cornered at the CDC field lab, Marcus exposes the toxin’s creator, sacrifices his immunity to save the city, and finally allows himself to feel as the crisis ends.
