Synopsis

Vance Thompson leads a beige life until his roommate films him nailing a Just Dance routine in the living room. The clip explodes online, turning the painfully shy analyst into “Just Dance Vance,” complete with brand deals, jealous coworkers, and a cutthroat dance crew that wants to exploit him. As fame pulls Vance into flashy clubs and away from his best friend Derek, he must decide whether to keep hiding behind the avatar or risk real connection. A high-stakes dance battle at the VMAs forces him to choose between manufactured stardom and the messy joy of genuine movement. In the end Vance rejects the machine, drags Derek onstage, and turns the finale into a celebration of two ordinary guys owning their ridiculous talent.

The story

Act I

Vance’s monotonous cubicle life is upended when Derek’s stealth video of him crushing Just Dance goes nuclear, landing him on morning shows and in a flashy talent contract.

Act II

Success strains his friendship with Derek while a rival crew and manipulative manager push Vance toward a soulless Vegas spectacle that threatens to erase his quirky identity.

Act III

At the VMAs, Vance walks away from the machine, pulls Derek into an improvised living-room-style finale, and proves that authentic weirdness beats polished perfection.

INT. TINY APARTMENT LIVING ROOM - NIGHT

Fluorescent light flickers over a threadbare couch. VANCE THOMPSON, 32, in boxers and tube socks, stands frozen before the TV. The Just Dance menu blinks: “DANCE NOW?”

VANCE
(whispering)
Okay. Just the chorus. Nobody’s watching.

He hits play. The song “Rasputin” erupts. Vance’s body detonates into perfect, ridiculous precision—hips snapping, arms slicing, dead-serious face. Behind the half-open bedroom door, DERECK films on his phone, trying not to laugh.

Suddenly the front door opens. Vance freezes mid-spin, one leg in the air, as his LANDLADY stares.

VANCE
(brightly)
…Rent’s due Friday.

She slowly closes the door. Derek’s phone dings with the first notification: 1.3K views and climbing.
