  In a mist-shrouded swamp reimagined as 1970s New York’s underworld, Shrek rules as the reclusive Don of the Ogre family. His “business” involves extorting magical creatures for swamp real estate while maintaining a strict code: no one enters without invitation. His loyal consigliere Donkey handles collections and comic relief, while the Three Little Pigs serve as muscle who keep blowing up rival hideouts. Trouble arrives when Lord Farquaad, a diminutive rival don backed by the Fairy Godmother’s syndicate, demands Shrek’s territory in exchange for “protection.” Shrek refuses, triggering a string of hits: the Big Bad Wolf is found stuffed in a brick outhouse, and Pinocchio’s strings are cut in a back-alley puppet shop. Paranoia sets in during a tense wedding feast for Shrek and Fiona that doubles as a sit-down. When Donkey’s loose lips reveal Shrek’s vulnerability to onions (and therefore emotions), Farquaad strikes at the rehearsal dinner. Shrek retaliates with a swamp ambush using exploding privy traps. In the aftermath, Shrek confronts Donkey’s betrayal, banishing him with a single line.
